HAWAII FIVE-O Adds Michelle Borth As Regular, Netflix Ends TERRA NOVA Talks, BEING HUMAN UK Renewed

Hello Folks

A few news bits from the last hours, from Deadline's Nellie Andreeva.

- When "Hawaii Five-O" returns for its third season in the fall, Michelle Borth ("The Forgotten"), who has recurred in the past as Steve McGarrett's love interest, U.S. Navy Lieutenant Catherine Rollins, will be a series regular.

- Probably not really surprising, but FOX' canceled sci-fi series "Terra Nova" has hit a major roadblock in his quest for a possible resurrection. Netflix, which has expressed initial interest to pick up the show, has now decided to end its talks with 20th Century Fox TV, without reaching a deal for a continuation. Chances that the show might end up elsewhere are minimal, but the actors have not yet been released of their contracts. Jason O'Mara, Allison Miller and Christine Adams (who wouldn't have been part of the second season anyway) have already booked pilots, though.

- The BBC and BBC America have jointly announced the pickup of a fifth season of the original UK sci-fi hit series "Being Human". Six episodes have been ordered, with an air date yet to be determined.

Maria Bello Feels TOUCH, Mamie Gummer Goes For THE BIG C, More

Hello Folks

Here are a few casting updates from today.

Per Deadline's Nellie Andreeva, Maria Bello ("Prime Suspect") will join FOX' new drama "Touch" for several episodes, with the option of becoming a series regular if the show gets renewed, which is likely. Bello plays the mother of a young girl with a similar gift that Martin's (Kiefer Sutherland) son Jake (David Mazouz) has.

- Showtime has announced that Mamie Gummer ("Off The Map") has joined the cast of the upcoming third season of Showtime's "The Big C". Gummer, daughter of Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep, and recently announced addition Hamish Linklater will play a young couple making Cathy (Laura Linney) an offer which is set out to bring a bit more light into the darkness that is her life.

- Hollywood Reporter reports today that Paula Marshall ("Gary Unmarried") has booked a guest stint on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" during May sweeps. In one episode, Marshall plays Ms. Veck, a cold-hearted, calculating and mean oil company CEO who's also a premiere race truck driver. The tough-as-nails businesswoman is convinced that she's the original target of a truck bombing.

- Ben Shenkman ("Drop Dead Diva") has booked a multi-episode arc on USA's "Roayal Pains". According to TVGuide's Kate Stanhope, he will play Dr. Jeremiah Sacani, HankMed's newest employee, who has a brilliant mind for science, but lacks the social skills for concierge medicine.

- Oh yeah, and Warner Bros. TV has released the first image of the cute AnnaSophia Robb in her getup as a young Carrie Bradshaw in the CW pilot "The Carrie Diaries", a prequel to "Sex And The City". Check out the Hi-Res version here.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that after the shocking (well for some, not so shocking) reveal that ABC Family's "Pretty Little Liars" went for the book route and pegged Mona as the infamous "A", producers can now announce that her portrayer, Janel Parrish, will be a series regular from next season on.

It was hinted in interviews over the last week that the character who would be revealed to be behind "A", will have a larger part in the next season, which bows on June 8.

ABC Family Sets Summer Premiere Dates - PRETTY LITTLE LIARS Returns June 5

ABC Family has held its upfront presentation today, and took the opportunity to announce the dates of its various summer premieres.

On Monday, June 11 at 9 PM ET/PT, ABC Family launches its new drama "Bunheads", starring Sutton Foster and created by Amy Sherman- Palladino ("Gilmore Girls"). “Bunheads” is the tale of a Las Vegas showgirl who impulsively marries a man, moves to his sleepy coastal town, and takes an uneasy role at her new mother-in-law’s dance school.

On Wednesday, June 20, at 8.30 PM ET/PT, new half-hour sitcom "Baby Daddy" premiers, which centers on a young man (Jean-Luc Bilodeau) who becomes a surprise dad to a baby girl when she’s left on his doorstep by an ex-girlfriend. He decides to raise the baby with the help of his mother (Melissa Peterman), his brother (Derek Theler), his best buddy Tucker (Tahj Mowry) and his close female friend, Riley (Chelsea Kane), who is harboring a secret crush on him.

Then, on Wednesday, July 11, ABC Family will venture into the docuseries territory with “Beverly Hills Nannies”, which follows the lives of a group of nannies working for families in the most exclusive zip code in the country.

After the reveal of "A", the "Pretty Little Liars" will only take a short hiatus, and return on Tuesday, June 5, at 8 PM ET/PT for the summer half of the third season.
And following, at 9 PM ET/PT, is "Jane By Design", which returns with all-new episodes.

And quite a bit earlier, next week to be exact, comes the fifth season of "The Secret Life of the American Teenager", which will bring the show to 100 episodes and beyond. The new season starts on Monday, March 26, at 8 PM ET/PT.

And on Wednesday, May 30, at 8 PM ET/PT, "Melissa & Joey" returns for the second season with back-to back episodes.

"Switched At Birth" will be back in the fall - and no word yet on how and if "The Lying Game" will continue.

NBC Announces Summer Premiere Dates, SAVING HOPE Start

Hello Folks

NBC has issued a press release announcing the premiere dates of three of its summer shows.

Reality format "Love in the Wild", hosted by Jenny McCarthy, will return for its second cylce on June 7 from 8-10 PM ET. The week after, the show will settle into its regular time slot of 9-10 PM ET.

"Love in the Wild" puts relationships to the ultimate test with exhilarating and wild adventures that push participants to the limit, both physically and emotionally. Single men and single women, all looking for love, will experience a romantic quest unlike anything they could have ever imagined. These singles have tried it all -- speed-dating, blind-dating, Internet dating -- and now, they will journey to a tropical paradise to see if they can find that special someone. During elimination, all of the couples will come together to reveal whether a connection has been formed with their current partner -- or if they would like to switch and get to know someone else. At the end of every episode, heartbroken singles are sent home. The series culminates with just one couple left standing.

Also on June 7, NBC will premiere its new medical drama "Saving Hope", at 10 PM ET. The show stars Erica Durance ("Smallville"), Michael Shanks ("Stargate: SG-1"), Daniel Gillies ("The Vampire Diaries"), Huse Madhavji ("Combat Hospital," "Star!" "Daily"), Julia Taylor-Ross ("Rookie Blue") and Kristopher Turner ("Rookie Blue," "The Listener").

When charismatic Chief of Surgery Charlie Harris (Shanks) at Hope-Zion Hospital ends up in a coma, he leaves the hospital in chaos -- and his fiancée and fellow surgeon, Alex Reid (Durance), in a state of shock. Along with newly arrived star surgeon, Joel Goran (Gillies), Reid races to save Harris' life. As the action unfolds, the comatose Harris explores the hospital halls in "spirit" form, not sure if he's a ghost or a figment of his own imagination. Reid, along with her fellow doctors, press on to save his life and those of their other patients as they deal with the complicated and courageous decisions that are made in their daily struggle to keep hope alive.

And a bit earlier, on Monday, May 21, G4's "American Ninja Warrior" will return to NBC from 9-11 PM ET. A week later, on May 28, the show will go into its regular slot of 9-10 PM ET.

G4 will premiere "American Ninja Warrior" on May 20, 9-11 PM ET.

G4 and NBC team up to air "American Ninja Warrior," the heart-racing obstacle course competition series with a nationwide search to find the ultimate athlete who will be crowned the first true "American Ninja Warrior." The networks collaborated with the original Japanese broadcaster, Tokyo Broadcasting System Television (TBS), to bring the competitive course over to the U.S., which is being held entirely on U.S. soil for the first time. Following NBC's highly rated special airing of the "American Ninja Warrior" finale last summer, G4 and NBC have expanded their collaboration this year to take the worldwide phenomenon to the next level with G4 airing the preliminary rounds while NBC will broadcast the preliminary finals and the grand finale.

Six regional qualifying competitions throughout the country will determine the finalists who will ultimately have a shot at a $500,000 cash prize and the chance to win the coveted "American Ninja Warrior" title in the national finals in Las Vegas. Over the past 15 years, only three competitors have successfully completed the infamous Ninja Warrior course atop Mount Midoriyama, Japan. "American Ninja Warrior" is back to find the toughest, most skilled U.S. competitors and give them a shot at conquering the almost impossible obstacle course.

FOX Banishes I HATE MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER To Summer

According to TVLine's Megan Masters, FOX has decided against moving its struggling freshman comedy "I Hate My Teenage Daughter" to Wednesdays after the show wraps its midseason run on April 3.

The network will keep going with two-hour performance shows of "American Idol" for the rest of the season, instead of the initially planned 90-minute segements, which would have left room for "Teenage Daughter".

This pushes the rest of "Teenage Daughter" to summer, with a specific date to be announced.

HBO, Producers Ceasing All Future Production Of LUCK

HBO has just announced that producers David Milch and Michael Mann have decided to cease all future production of "Luck". The show is over after a third horse has been injured and had to be euthanized during the filming of the series. The show is thereby officially canceled.

Here's the full press release:

It is with heartbreak that executive producers David Milch and Michael Mann together with HBO have decided to cease all future production on the series LUCK.

Safety is always of paramount concern.  We maintained the highest safety standards throughout production, higher in fact than any protocols existing in horseracing anywhere with many fewer incidents than occur in racing or than befall horses normally in barns at night or pastures.  While we maintained the highest safety standards possible, accidents unfortunately happen and it is impossible to guarantee they won’t in the future.  Accordingly, we have reached this difficult decision.

We are immensely proud of this series, the writing, the acting, the filmmaking, the celebration of the culture of horses, and everyone involved in its creation.

Quote from Michael Mann and David Milch:  “The two of us loved this series, loved the cast, crew and writers.  This has been a tremendous collaboration and one that we plan to continue in the future.”

ABC Family Close To Renewing THE LYING GAME

While we're on the renewal front today:

Per Deadline's Nellie Andreeva reports today that ABC Family is this close to finalizing a deal to bring back its freshman drama "The Lying Game" for a second season.

Further proof for being pretty much certain that the renewal will be happening is the fact that the show's main actors have been invited to ABC Family's upfront event next Monday.

So yeah, that pretty much sums it up. Not official yet, but it will be, soon.

CBS Renews BLUE BLOODS For Third Season, More Renewals Expected Soon

Hello Folks

Per Deadline's Nellie Andreeva, CBS has picked up its cop drama "Blue Bloods" for a third season.

CBS is not confirming, but I trust Nellie Andreeva as a source, as she was spot on with all the early renewal reports at last year's upfronts. So yes, we can very much start to celebrate on that front. The Tom Selleck starring drama will be back next year.

But that's not all. According to the report, CBS is closing in on renewals of several other shows. "NCIS", "NCIS: Los Angeles", "2 Broke Girls", "Person of Interest", "Mike and Molly", "The Mentalist", "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", "Criminal Minds" - and "Two and A Half Men", even though a deal for Ashton Kutcher to remain on the show has yet to be finalized.

Veteran comedies "How I Met Your Mother" and "The Big Bang Theory" are already renewed through next season via multi-year pickups.

Stay tuned. I'll update with more news as soon as I hear more.

Julie Benz, Others Join DEFIANCE, Several Shows Add Regulars

Hello Folks

Finally having more time again to delve into casting news. Here's the latest, from Deadline:

- Julie Benz ("Dexter", "A Gifted Man") has joined the cast of upcoming Syfy series "Defiance" as the female lead, with Tony Curran ("Pillars Of The Earth"), Jamie Murray ("Warehouse 13", "Ringer") and Stephanie Leonidas nabbing additional roles.
Created by Rockne S. O'Bannon ("Farscape"), "Defiance" centers on a future Earth where humans and aliens live together on a planet ravaged by decades of war and transformed by alien terra-forming machines. At the center is Jeb Nolan (grant Bowler), the law-keeper in a bustling frontier boomtown that is one of the new world’s few oasis of civility and inclusion. Benz will play Amanda Rosewater, the idealistic newly appointed mayor of the mining boomtown who is determined to maintain peace in the community. Leonidas will play Irisa, a beautiful warrior who is part of an alien race called the Irathients.  After Nolan killed her criminal father, he adopted the girl and raised her as his clever – and lethal – right-hand. Curran is set as Datak Tarr, a member of another elite alien race known as the Castithans who schemed his way out of his home planet before it was destroyed. And Murray plays Datak’s beautiful and proper wife.

- Justine Lupe, who is currently recurring as the firm's newest hire on NBC's "Harry's Law", has been upped to series regular for the rest of the season.

- ABC Family's "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" is getting two new regulars. Michael Grant, who plays Ricky's former foster brother Ethan, has been upped to regular, and Cierra Ramirez ("The Suite Life of Zack and Cody") will join the cast in the series' 100th episode as a new regular, playing Kathy, a new freshman that Amy (Shailene Woodley) has been asked to mentor.

The show consists of 10 episodes, and centers on an ex-con and master thief that takes over the identity of the sheriff of Banshee, PA, and continues his criminal shenanigans while being hunted by the gangsters he had betrayed earlier. Faison plays Sugar Bates, a powerful former boxer and ex-con who owns the local watering hole.

- Jamey Sheridan ("Law & Order: Criminal Intent") has been upped to series regular for the upcoming second season of Showtime's "Homeland". Sheridan plays Vice President William Walden on the show.

FOX Cancels TERRA NOVA, Fox TV Trying To Find It A New Home

Hello Folks

FOX has officially canceled its freshman drama "Terra Nova". Several sources reported the news, and a tweet from lead actor Jason O'Mara helped confirming it.

"Bad news guys. #TerraNova has been cancelled by @FoxBroadcasting - we're gonna try and get another network to do it. Stand by : ("

20th Century Fox Television is currently shopping the show around to other networks. We'll see if that will lead to a continuation after all. The show is pretty expensive to produce, which means it'll probably be a tough sell.
