AMC Renews BREAKING BAD For Fifth And Final Season Of 16 Episodes
Hello Folks
AMC has announced via a press release that it has renewed its successful drama "Breaking Bad" for a fifth - and final - season.
Production on the final order will start in early 2012, for an airdate yet to be determined.
16 episodes will serve to conclude the landmark series which, along with "Mad Men", pretty much put AMC on the map of the cable market.
"From the day we heard [showrunner] Vince Gilligan's completely original vision for 'Breaking Bad,' it has been a complete joy to be involved with this show. Watching this story evolve into the complex, compelling, and intense roller coaster ride that it has become has been an incredible creative experience for everyone at AMC. Beyond that, working with Vince, his brilliant cast and crew, and our wonderful partners at Sony has been remarkable in every way. While it is sad to even contemplate the end of this series, we are so happy to have had the chance to go on this ride, and truly look forward to presenting the rest of this amazing story," said AMC president Charlie Collier.
"It's a funny irony -- I'd hate to know the date of my own last day on earth, but I'm delighted to know what Walter White's will be (episodically speaking). This is a great gift to me and to my wonderful writers. It's knowledge which will allow us to properly build our story to a satisfying conclusion. Now, if we don't manage to pull that off, we've got no one to blame but ourselves," said Vince Gilligan. "'Breaking Bad' has been a dream job these past four years. Working with the best cast and crew in television has no doubt spoiled me for future projects. I'm lucky to get to work with them on sixteen more episodes, and I will always be grateful to both AMC and Sony Television, who from the beginning, believed in our show and supported me creatively and professionally. We have been able to take risks with 'Breaking Bad' which would not have been possible on other networks."

Jamie Bamber, Bobby Cannavale, Nick Zano, Tim Blake Nelson, A. J. Langer Land Roles
And even more casting news, again from several sources.
- Jamie Bamber ("Battlestar Galactica") has been tapped for a guest spot on "CSI: Miami". He will play Robbie, one half of a duo of storm chasers who end up having a part of their equipment being linked to a murder case, and Sgt. Frank Tripp (Rex Linn) pulls them in for questioning.
- Bobby Cannavale ("Will & Grace" "Blue Bloods") is the latest actor to join "Nurse Jackie". The opener sees the family (including Dylan, Haley's (Sarah Hyland) boyfriend) going to a Wyoming Dude Ranch, where Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cam (Eric Stonestreet) try to recapture some of their macho sides. USA Renews SUITS For Second Season
Hello Folks
USA has announced today that it has renewed its freshman drama "Suits" for a second season, Deadline's Nellie Andreeva reports today.
The legal drama, starring Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams, will end its first season run on September 8, and will return next year with 16 new episodes.
"One of the things that we are trying with this show is really pushing out, trying new things," USA co-president Jeff Wachtel said. "With Suits, we've gone to a new level of storytelling and visual sophistication and to a little bit of an edgier place -- Harvey is not immediately likable and the young hero has made so many bad choices in his life, when we meet him he is dealing drugs. For a network that has made its mark with aspirational characters and smart escapism, this is a step in a new direction." Added co-president Chris McCumber, "The show opened another Thursday 10 PM success for us after Burn Notice and Royal Pains, and we view it as a long-term player." The renewal news comes just before Suits is slated to wrap production on its freshman season in Toronto tomorrow. "We believe it is really important to pick up the additional season while the show is still in production -- it gives the cast and the crew a sense of stability knowing that the show is coming back, it's better for the morale on the show."

Syfy Cancels EUREKA
Hello Folks
Deadline's Nellie Andreeva reports today that Syfy has decided to cancel "Eureka" after all.
There was talk of a six-episode order for a final sixth season, but Syfy opted to cancel the show right away, after the upcoming holiday episode and the fifth season that airs in 2012.
After painstaking consideration, we have had to make the difficult business decision to not order a season six of Eureka. But Eureka is not over yet. There is a new holiday episode this December and 12 stellar episodes set to debut next year, marking its fifth season and six memorable years on Syfy. The 2012 episodes are some of the best we’ve seen, and will bring this great series to a satisfying end. We are very grateful to Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, their team of incredible writers, and an amazing cast and crew who have consistently delivered a series we continue to be very proud of. We thank the fans for their support of this show and know they will enjoy its final season in 2012.

Devin Kelley To COVERT AFFAIRS, Brandy, Sarah Hagan To 90210, Many More Casting News
Because of the TCA Summer Press Tour, I'm terribly behind on casting news. So here are a few noteworthy bits, gathered from various sources.
Please beware that there are some mild spoilers below.
- Devin Kelley ("The Chicago Code") has been cast in a recurring role on USA's "Covert Affairs". She will play Parker, younger sister to Billy, who served in Iraq with Auggie (Christopher Gorham) and was killed during the mission that had Auggie blinded. After putting her life on hold for a while, Parker now meets Auggie while preparing for her service in the Peace Corps. Save to say, things are getting steamy, and not only for one night.
- Singer Brandy and Sarah Hagan ("Buffy The Vampire Slayer") have both come aboard "90210". Brandy has been cast in a major arc as Marissa Jackson-Lewis, a charismatic young politician running for congress in California against Teddy’s (Trevor Donovan) conservative uncle. She's described as a mix between Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama.
Hagan plays the recurring part of Anna, one of Naomi's (AnnaLynne McCord) sorority sisters at California University. She is a leader type girl that is very good with words, and also insanely smart, and has no problem showing those talents off with pride.
- Vivica A. Fox ("Missing", "Drop Dead Diva") and Jeffrey Nordling ("Desperate Housewives") have both joined the cast of Lifetime's "The Protector". Fox plays Capt. Lisa Nowak, ex-wife of Lt. Felix Valdez (Miguel Ferrer). She arrives in episode 12, and is quick to cause some trouble for Gloria (Ally Walker). Nordling plays a new love interest for Lisa.
- Isabella Hoffman ("Homicide: Life on the Streets") has joined the cast of "Criminal Minds" as Agent Rossi's (Joe Mantegna) ex-wife, or make that one of his ex-wives. But she was the first. Hoffman's first appearance is set for episode 5.
- Michael Dorn ("Star Trek: The Next Generation") will play Kate Beckett's (Stana Katic) psychologist on "Castle " for at least two episodes, the first being the Season 4 premiere. Beckett's sessions with her new shrink might also shed some light on her feelings for Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion).
- Sarah Michelle Gellar will return to "All My Children" before the veteran Daytime soap ends its run on ABC. But she won't be playing Kendall Hart.
- Linus Roache will return to "Law & Order: SVU" in the 13th season premiere, reprising his role as ADA Michael Cutter. He is now Bureau Chief at the DA's office, a position that lets him oversee the Special Victims Unit.
- Jamie Harris ("No Ordinary Family") has joined the cast of FX' upcoming horror series "American Horror Story", where he will play a sociopathic murderer called R. Franklin in a recurring part.
- Chi McBride ("Pushing Daisies") will guest star on the season finale of "Suits", playing District Attorney Wolf, who shows up after a scandal that rocks the DA's office in its core. Harvey (Gabriel Macht) turns to Wolf for some help on an old case, but finds out fast that he can't expect anything from Wolf in terms of favors. The episode is expected to air on September 8.

HAWAII FIVE-O Casts Patty Duke, Peter Fonda For Guest Spots
Per EW's James Hibberd, Oscar winner Patty Duke ("The Miracle Worker") has been tapped for an upcoming second season episode of CBS's "Hawaii Five-O".
Duke will play "an Alzheimer’s-afflicted mother of a murder victim. When the Five-0 team go to deliver the notification, they learn her condition has her believing that her adult son is actually still a child. For a while, the team shields her from the news, but ultimately she must confront her devastating loss," according to the article.
Additionally, Peter Fonda has been added to the guest cast of an episode in October, TVGuide's William Keck reports. Fonda will play a treacherous sea captain, who ends up being a murder suspect.

TCA: ABC / ABC Family - Fates Of MAKE IT OR BREAK IT, CHLOE KING Still Uncertain
We're getting to a close on this year's TCA Summer Press Tour.
Here's the important stuff of the ABC and ABC Family sessions, gathered from all over the web.
- ABC Family president Michael Riley said that a decision on a possible third season of gymnastic drama "Make It Or Break It", and a continuation of freshman drama "The Nine Lives of Chloe King" is still to be made. "No decisions yet on either of those shows," were his exact words.
- ABC has officially announced that the upcoming eighth season of "Desperate Housewives" will be the last. Entertainment president Paul Lee said of the decision, "I just wanted to make sure this show that sort of put this network on the map - certainly the new brand of this network for the last six or seven years - had its victory lap." And creator Marc Cherry added, "I'm [aware] of people overstaying their welcome. I just didn't want that to happen to 'Desperate Housewives.' I wanted to go out while the network still saw us as a viable show, while we were still doing well in the ratings... I wanted to go out in kind of the classiest way possible."
- Lee said that "Pan Am" presents a "much broader, brighter canvass" than fellow 1960s-set show "Mad Men", and therefore will "attract a broader, brighter audience". Yes, we get it Paul - broader, brighter. Add any word after that you like...
- ABC is currently re-developing Marc Cherry's latest project "Hallelijah". "I love that idea and we have started to redevelop it," Lee said, and Cherry added later, ""We did a pilot and half of it was terrific and half of it wasn't. And I said to Paul... 'This is so complex what I'm trying to do here, give me the time [to do it right].'"
- Lee would very much like to see successful summer cop drama "Rookie Blue" make the transition into regular TV season. "The timing is an issue but I have to say it's a really good series and I would not be anything but happy to see it in the [regular] season, absolutely." He added that no decision has been made yet about the future of "Combat Hospital".

GOSSIP GIRL's Connor Paolo Calls It Quits
According to TVLine's Vlada Gelman Connor Paolo, who plays Eric van der Woodsen on The CW's "Gossip Girl", will definitely not return for the show's upcoming fifth season.
The actor, who landed a regular role on ABC's upcoming drama "Revenge", said: "“I’m done. You should never go back in life. Only forward.”
Last week, he told reporters at the TCA Summer Press Tour that "“Eric’s going to college and he’s going to stay there. He doesn’t come home for Christmas anymore.”
Earlier this year, Taylor Momsen and Jessica Szohr have both said they won't return to the show full-time, but in their cases, an occasional guest spot might still be in the cards.

TCA: FOX
FOX held its portion of the TCA Summer Press Tour on Friday, and this is what I'd like to share.
Gathered from all over the web.
- Entertainment president Kevin Riley said that there is a "slim chance" that comedy "Breaking In" might see another day in midseason. "It still has a shot," he said. "They've agreed to extend an option so we've kept it alive. And you know what, stranger things have happened."
- On the possibility of the much talked-about "Glee" spinoff still having a shot, Riley responded, "We haven't sort of said we're not doing it. The short answer is we have collectively decided let's revisit that in the back half of this year when it should be visited."
- Riley doesn't expect "Fringe" to grow in the ratings. "If 'Fringe' can do exactly what it did last year we're going to be very, very happy with it."
- He wouldn't confirm or deny if the next season of "House" would be its last. "[The producers] want to go out strong so we're going to revisit this later in the fall and decide whether this is the last year of the show on FOX or not. Universal will then have the decision of whether they'd like to try to keep the show going somewhere else." That decision is said to come in late October. HUgh Laurie is signed on for one more season beyond the next.
- "Terra Nova", which will launched with big bravado in September, will not go beyond its 13 episodes in the first season, Riley said - even if the ratings are stellar. Producing more episodes in such a short time is simply not possible with this series. Contractually, a second season would consist of 22 episodes. But if that can be actually done would have to be seen.
- Riley has screened the pilot for "Touch" starring Kiefer Sutherland, and says it's "potentially great". Translation: It could be great, but at the moment, just isn't… The show is still awaiting a place on the FOX schedule.
- "Bones" and its spinoff "The Finder" will have 13 episodes each this season. "Bones" will be "sandwiched" around the run of "The Finder". There is a possibility of having a few more "Bones" episodes, depending how fit Emily Deschanel will be after her pregnancy to do more. But certainly not 22.
- "X Factor" will start airing its live performance shows on November 2 (with 90-minute editions about the castings, judges and finalist revelations beginning September 21), and the season finale is set for December 21 and 22. The winner will then get to be part in a Pepsi SuperBowl spot.
- "Terra Nova" will have some added scenes that were not in the earlier pilot when it launches on Monday, September 26. A bit more of the backstory of the central Shannon family will be inserted that was initially left out. When talking to TVLine, Riley said, "The ‘core Comic-Con audience’ can make that leap and [believe], ‘Less is more,’ but I think [the added back story] filled out the characters a little better. We screened it to multiple contingencies [and] I heard a lot of feedback from people who preferred it.”
- Oh, and "New Girl" Zooey Deschanel is apparently all kinds of "adorable".

TCA: The CW
Next up in my line of looks back at what happened at the TCA Summer Press Tour, The CW. Gahtered from various sources.
- On why "The Vampire Diaries" won't get additional episodes (like "Gossip Girl" (24), "90210" (24), "Supernatural" (23) and "Nikita" (23)), CW entertainment president Mark Pedowitz said that the show couldn't produce more segments "a production basis. We would have loved to have more. But I'd rather have a great 22 than 24 [that are not]."
- He wouldn't confirm or deny that the next season is the last of "Supernatural". At The CW, hope is to have the show going on, but they're looking at "one season at a time".
- At the moment, it is pretty certain that the last season of "One Tree Hill" will cap at 13 episodes. But "never say never", Pedowitz told reporters about a possible extension. James Lafferty is set to return for multiple episodes.
- For its future, The CW is also looking to add procedurals to its lineup, as well as a new take on superheroes.
- Kevin Williamson said at the "Secret Circle" panel that there won't be any crossovers between his new show and "The Vampire Diaries". “That would kind of limit us. We want to create our own story.”
However, just a day later, while speaking to TVLine, Williamson sort of retracted a bit. "If there’s a way that we could set up two sets of witches and let them merge, then maybe there’s a crossover episode in store,” he said. But only if they're no vampires or werewolves involved, otherwise "…I feel like I’m watching The Vampire Diaries.” Yeah, I wouldn't bet on any crossovers…next season, that is.

TCA: CBS
OK, I had a crazy week, that's why I have to put out the wrap-ups of the TCA Summer Press Tour over the weekend.
Here's what's worth mentioning from CBS, gathered from all over the place.
- Entertainment president Nina Tassler was grilled on the latest leading man switch-up on "CSI". She acknowledged that Laurence Fishburne had "big shoes to fill" replacing William Petersen. "The departure of William was impactful.”
On new leading man Ted Danson, Tassler noted, "We looked at a number of different choices. [Danson] is a huge TV star, he’s got a tremendous amount of charisma, it’s what the show needs right now."
- Exec producer Carol Mendelsohn said that the new "CSI" season will be lighter in tone, and that the addition of Ted Danson will bring a more humorous approach to the show. “I think you can infer it -- last year we were chasing a serial killer; that arc has come to an end … we will have more humor than last season.” Of Danson's addition, she said: ""We wanted a Sherlock Holmes -- we did not want a science nerd. And we started the premiere of Season 1 with, 'Here comes the nerd squad.' We said, how do we get someone of great intelligence who is not a nerd?"
- Ted Danson himself said he can draw from his time on "Cheers" for the funnier moments of the coming season of "CSI". “Trying to hold together a crazy group of people, whether they are crazy-bright or crazy-silly, is something that I respond to".
- Then of course, there was the Charlie Sheen scandal. Tassler opened with a poignant "Oh, where do I begin?", before elaborating a bit more. “What we learned is that we have an extraordinary cast. I was just at the table read, We have extraordinary writers, extraordinary actors and there is great value in hiring an actor like Ashton Kutcher. He is extra professional, a funny, talented gifted actor who comes with a tremendout amount of commitment and enthusiasm. What I’ve learn is the show is brilliantly written, extraordinarily produced and that you have an opportunity moving forward to create an exciting new character and deliver a great show.”
- The character Ashton Kutcher will play on "Two And A Half Men" is named Walden Schmidt, and Tassler describes him as an "Internet Billionaire with a broken heart". The season premiere will be a two-parter, spread over two weeks.
- On putting veteran comedy "Rules of Engagement" on Saturday, Tassler revealed that they "see Saturday night as an opportunity. Advertisers like comedies, and it’s a terrific show."

TNT Renews RIZZOLI & ISLES For Third Season
TNT has announced today that it has picked up its sophomore crime drama "Rizzoli & Isles" for a third season.
The show starring Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander and based on a series of novels by Tess Gerritsen, will get 15 new episodes for summer 2012.
“This summer, Rizzoli & Isles has proven that last year’s record-breaking ratings were just the beginning of this show’s remarkable track record,” said Michael Wright, executive vice president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “With a terrific cast, a top-notch production team and the kind of stories TNT fans crave, Rizzoli & Isles is poised to continue its success alongside blockbuster TNT series like The Closer and Falling Skies.”
"Rizzoli & Isles" is currently airing its second season, and will continue to do so up to September 12. The sophomore year will then conclude in November and December.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES To End In May
Hello Folks
Well, this is quite the shocker before the weekend...
According to Deadline's Nellie Andreeva and Nikki Finke, ABC will announce on Sunday at its portion of the TCA Summer Press Tour that the upcoming eighth season of "Desperate Housewives" will be the last.
The cast members are being told as I write this. There is no direct reason given for the move by ABC, but the eighth season will be the first (and now last) without creator Marc Cherry running things. He remains a consultant, while he focuses on developing other series.
No matter the cause: How bummed are you that the days of Wysteria Lane are coming to a close?

As for "Gossip Girl" and "90210", two additional episodes were ordered. Those two shows will have 24 episodes in total next season.

Craig Kilborn To CHUCK, Molly Parker To THE FIRM, T. R. Knight To SVU, Many More Castings
Finally, I've got time to add some of the casting news that made the rounds over the weekend, and some that were added more recently, from TVLine.
- Talk show host Craig Kilborn will guest star in the fifth (and final) season premiere of "Chuck", playing Roger Bale, a handsome but villainous investor who’s stolen money from some of the world’s most dangerous people - but he himself is also a very dangerous man. "Chuck" returns October 21.
- Molly Parker ("Swingtown") has joined the cast of NBC's series continuation of the feature film "The Firm", where she will play Mitch McDeere's (Josh Lucas) wife, Abby. The show is set 10 years after the happenings of the John Grisham novel and the movie.
- Alana De La Garza will return to "CSI: Miami" in the season premiere airing September 25, reprising her role as Horatio Caine's (David Caruso) dead wife Marisol. It's unclear whether she'll be seen in a flashback, a dream, a hallucination or as a ghost. Additionally, for the second episode back, Brandon Beemer ("Days of Our Lives") will be guesting as Derek Vaughn, a gigolo.
- T. R. Knight ("Grey's Anatomy") will join "Law & Order: SVU" for a guest spot. In an upcoming episode, he'll be playing a suspected serial rapist.
- Troy Garity ("Barbershop") has been cast in "The Playboy Club", playing the recurring part of John Bianchi, the “connected” son of Bruno Bianchi, a Chicago crime kingpin who meets an unexpected and grisly fate in the series premiere airing Monday, September 19. John will use reformed mobster Nick Dalton's (Eddie Cibrian) sense of "family" to locate "their" missing father.
- Brittany Belt ("The Ex List", "Castle") has landed a recurring part on "Parenthood", playing Emma, one of Haddie's (Sarah Ramos) best friends.
- Justin Bruening ("Knight Rider") has joined the cast of The CW's "Ringer", where he will play Tyler, a young man who sets his sights on Siobhan aka one of the twin sisters being played by Gellar. But, he's not the only one, as Siobhan's husband (Ioan Gruffud) and lover (Kristofer Polaha) are doing the same.
- Gemma Whelan ("Gullivers Travels") has come aboard "Game of Thrones", playing the fierce older sister of Theon (Alfie Allen), Yara, in multiple episodes.
- Ana Gasteyer will stick around "Suburgatory" a little longer. Her character of a nosy new neighbor of Tessa (Jane Levy) and her dad (Jeremy Sisto) has been upped to recurring.

John Corbett Returning To PARENTHOOD
Hello Folks
TVLine's Michael Ausiello reports today that John Corbett will return to NBC's "Parenthood" next season, and not only for a one-time guest stint.
He will do a major arc on the show, reprising his role of Seth, Sarah Braverman's (Lauren Graham) ex-husband and father of her two children.
You can expect quite the love triangle, as his return clashes with the return of Sarah's on-again, off-again boyfriend Mark (Jason Ritter).
“Just when everything seems to be going well between Sarah and Mark, Seth shows up and he’s kind of in a darker place than he’s been,” exec producer Jason Katims says. “And so you see Sarah really having to struggle with wanting to help him and be there for him, but also at the same time [be fully present] in this relationship with Mark that’s really good and healthy.”
As for why Katims decided to bring Seth back and for such a major arc, hit the link above.

TCA: NBC Day 1 - The Skinny On THE PLAYBOY CLUB, SVU, THE VOICE Return Date
Today was NBC's first of two days at the TCA Summer Press Tour, and here's what's worth mentioning so far.
- "The Playboy Club" is the right fit for NBC at this point. NBC Entertainment President Robert Greenblatt said about the new show that has the Parents Television Council up in arms, and one affiliate denying the broadcast, "“What it has going for it is a recognizable brand that’s automatically going to draw attention to it, good or bad. It’s a really fun soap with a crime element and I think it’s the right kind of thing for us to try.” He goes on to describe the show as an "energized soap opera", that only has the setting and the period that is familiar to the successful AMC series.
- In related news, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner will only be heard narrating the pilot. After that, the concept of voice-overs for the show has been dropped entirely. Don't know, maybe it got distracting for the male audience to dream about being the plaything of bunny, when the guy who actually is constantly keeps dropping in…
- But Hefner will still be in some way part of "The Playboy Club". "You can't do a story about the Playboy Club without him," series exec producer Chad Hodge said. He goes on to explain Hefner's possible involvement in developing said story. "“Hugh has the opportunity to look at any script he wants to, but he has been very hands-off in terms of the creative control of the show,” Hodge told TVLine. “He’s an entertainer, too, and he knows the project is a work of historical fiction.” Overall, says the exec, “He’s very, very happy with it.”
- Greenblatt calls James Spader "a perfect fit" for "The Office" after Steve Carell has left - and he is managing his expectations. “My expectations are always very measured, so that we can under-expect and then hopefully over-deliver. The Office is very important to us – it’s our No. 1 show in all kinds of demos — and shows go through transitions as they age, and losing Steve is one of those.” But of course he "would be thrilled if it continues to do what it had been doing” in the ratings. Yes, he obviously [I]had[/I] to add that last bit, can't blame a man for always thinking about the money…
- "The Voice" returns to NBC right after the Super Bowl, on February 5, 2012. It will be a two-hour premiere, which leads into the series premiere of "Smash".
- Chris Meloni will be leaving "Law & Order: SVU", but the door for him to come back might be left a tiny bit open. Det. Stabler won't be killed off, Greenblatt said. When asked about Mariska Hargitay and her possibly reduced involvement next season, Greenblatt said “That remains to be seen. That’s something we talked about, and I don’t know if that’s actually where it’s going to go in the latter half of the season yet. But that could happen.” Yeah, so, we're practically not one inch closer to knowing a little more…
