TCA Press Tour: NBC Universal

Hello Folks

Another press tour day to wrap up, this time on the NBC Universal family.

Gathered from all over the place again.

NBC:

- NBC Universal TV chairman Jeff Gaspin and entertainment president Angela Bromstad talked about "The Office" and that they knew before it was made public that Steve Carell would leave after the next season. The duo says that there are plans on who will replace Michael, and that the reveal and the fashion the switch is made will make for several storylines, and some good mystery on the identity of Michael's successor.

- NBC has also announced that three of its shows will get a head start going int to the fall by premiering them up to a week earlier than previously announced. "Parenthood" starts its sophomore season on September 14, new series "Outlaw" bows with a special preview in the wake of the "America's Got Talent" finale on September 15, and reality format "The Apprentice" returns with a two-hour premiere on September 16.
Additionally, "Law & Order: SVU" will launch its new season on September 22, with new spinoff "Law & Order: Los Angeles" premiering the week after, on September 29.
As for "Parks & Recreations", the network has still not announced a start date for season two.

- New superhero series "The Cape", currently slated for midseason, is different from "Heroes" in that it is more of a procedural with a hero that does not actually have superpowers, but uses manipulation to thwart his enemies. Actually, it's not the superhero part that sounds repetitive, it's the "procedural" part…

- Don't ever look for "Day One" on NBC, as this project is now officially dead. Or in other words, was killed all over again…

- Speaking of killing things all over again: The original "Law & Order" is definitely, irrevocably, entirely, you guessed it, dead.

- Instead, look for a live episode of "30 Rock" on October 14.

- Rob Lowe is now a series regular on "Parks & Recreation". I guess some fans rather had them announcing a return date than this…

- "The Rockford Files" is not without a few signs of life left, as does the remake of British series "Prime Suspect". Peter Berg and Sarah Aubrey's production company Film 44 has renewed its overall deal with NBC Universal, and is looking to get the pilot under way. Alexandra Cunningham has taken over writing duties from Hank Steinberg.

- Concerning new series "The Event", one critic asked about the possibility of a similar fate as "FlashForward". "We are going to do everything in our power to guard against the 'FlashForward' [problems]," Bromstad said. "We take those lessons very seriously. Audiences and critics will be rightly be skeptical." The show won't taunt viewers too long with unanswered questions, as the two biggest questions from the pilot will be answered in the second episode. “We’re very cognizant of the audience’s patience, of rewarding the audience,” said showrunner Evan Katz ("24"). “The show’s designed to answer questions to satisfy people, to keep them hooked, frankly, but to keep posing questions." But for all the conspiracy lovers, there's plenty of stuff left to figure out of course, and countless storylines to be explored, as the show's bible apparently was "longer than the script [for the pilot]", exec producer Steve Stark mentioned.
If you still aren't fed up and crave to know more about "The Event", head over here.

- On casting two black leads in spy drama "Undercovers", exec producer Josh Reims said: “We didn’t consider that we were revolutionizing TV, but we do realize it’s a big deal. We all wish it wasn’t such a big deal that two black characters were on a major TV show on a major TV network, but that’s the way it is now.” In any case, they sure don't mind the added publicity I guess…

Syfy:

- The cable network has announced its new development slate, which includes projects from Kevin Sorbo, Lee Majors and the team behind "Sanctuary". If you're interested in it, click here.

- Syfy has also announced the production start for its U.S. version of British series "Being Human", starring Sam Witwer, Meaghan Rath, Sam Huntington and Mark Pellegrino. The premiere will be directed by Adam Kane.

Eddie Cibrian Cuts To The CHASE, Terrence Howard Goes To LOLA

Two casting reports from EW's Michael Ausiello:

- Eddie Cibrian has signed on for a multi-episode arc on NBC's upcoming drama "Chase". He will play a bounty hunter in at least two episodes, with his first appearance set for October.

- Terrence Howard ("Crash") has joined the cast of "Law & Order: Los Angeles" in the role of the Deputy DA, a part he will split with Alfred Molina, who was previously cast as a Deputy DA as well.

TNT Renews LEVERAGE, THE CLOSER, RIZZOLI & ISLES

On the day of its TCA press tour, TNT has announced the renewal of three of its dramas.

"Leverage" and "The Closer" will return next year with 15 new episodes, while freshman crime drama "Rizzoli & Isles" will be back for 13 episodes.

Clayne Crawford To ALL SIGNS OF DEATH, Corey Stoll To LOLA, More

Some casting news that fell into my lap:

- Clayne Crawford ("24", "The Glades") is on the verge of landing a major part in HBO's upcoming drama pilot "All Signs Of Death", EW's Michael Ausiello repots today. In the story about a slacker (Ben Wishaw) who becomes a crime scene cleaner and involved in a murder mystery, Crawford plays a sexy greaser running a tattoo parlor.

- TV Guide's Kate Stanhope reports that Corey Stoll ("NCIS", "Salt") has landed the plum part of Rex Winter's (Skeet Ulrich) partner on the upcoming "Law & Order: Los Angeles". He plays Det. Tomas "TJ" Jaruszalski, who is described as "a confident Los Angeles native with a disdain for the entertainment industry and an active social life. He sees the world as a complex place with lots of gray areas, which helps him both get into the heads of criminals and win them over."

- Ellen DeGeneres has announced her departure as judge on "American Idol" yesterday. In a statement, she said "A couple months ago, I let FOX and the AMERICAN IDOL producers know that this didn’t feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn’t leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on IDOL and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.”
The look for a replacement is ongoing. Jennifer Lopez is the front-runner for the spot.

- Charles Mesure, who plays Kyle Patrick Hobbes on ABC's alien invasion drama "V", has been upped to a full-fledged series regular for season two, the network has announced.

TCA Press Tour: Showtime/The CW

Hello Folks

OK, here's the latest roundup of yesterday's press tour day, where Showtime and The CW held their panels.

Again, the info is taken from various sources.

First off: Showtime.

- It was a smooth transition of showrunners on "Dexter". Clyde Phillips, who left the show after season five to focus more on his family, was replaced by Chip Johannessen, who took over at the beginning of the upcoming fifth season.

- "Dexter" will switch from one Big Bad per season to multiple adversaries, giving them shorter arcs. "We wanted to shake it up", Johannessen said. Yeah, it's not like the end of last season was shaking things up… no, not at all…

- The overall theme of next season is "Atonement". Quick, page Keira Knightley and Saoirse Ronan for guest spots!

- Julie Benz will return, but not as a ghost. Phew, bullet dodged…

- Laura Linney acknowledges her work on television as making her a better actress, she revealed at the panel for her upcoming dark comedy drama "The Big C". The show promises to be "thoughtful and funny", exec producer Jenny Bricks stated.

- Matt LeBlanc says that even though he will play himself on "Episodes", which bows in January, it is not really an accurate depiction. "It's a character that David and Jeffrey wrote that happens to have the same name as me."

- Producers won't rule out guest appearances by former "Friends" actors on "Episodes", but nothing is planned yet.

The CW:

- Entertainment president Dawn Ostroff said that "the days of waking up and looking at the overnight ratings are gone". She probably means that DVR and online viewings should be taken into account more. True, but it still sounds like those overnights were just no fun for The CW to look at…

- The CW doesn't have the resources to promote summer series like "Plain Jane" or "18 To Life", Ostroff admits. OK, but then I wouldn't take too close a look at the overnight ratings…

- On the other hand, there will be more commercials in the future for shows streamed online.

- On "Supernatural", expect the show going back to its roots, which is, more week-by-week demon hunting again, but with a twist. "Sam is going to be more like Dean, and Dean is going to be more like Sam," Ostroff hints at how the sixth season will present its heroes.
Ostroff also hopes that the show might stick around for more than just another year. Yeah, well, Dawn, that is mostly up to you then, right, 'cause cancelling and renewing things in in your job description, I believe.

- The door is open for Michael Rosenbaum to return to the final season of "Smallville", Ostroff says. Now all he has to do is walk through it…

- Even Dawn Ostroff was surprised how much she and her fellow pilot-checkers liked "Hellcats". The show will be a bit like "Glee", as there will be big production numbers in each episode. Well, I guess that will be the only similarity… surely the ratings won't match up… and now we have confirmation that this is indeed "Bring It On: The Series".

- Both Aly Michalka and Ashley Tisdale could see themselves singing on "Hellcats" as well. OK, but only if they do it in their uniforms…

- Once "Smallville" is done, The CW is looking to adapt another DC comic for the small screen.

- "One Tree Hill" has an intact chance of living beyond the next season, but Ostroff says "it's way too early to discuss". OK, but don't let it become "waiting way too long for a decision"…

- Exec producer Stephanie Savage said that Taylor Momsen will definitely return to "Gossip Girl", and promises lots of drama for Jenny when she comes back. Some viewers probably think the real drama is that she comes back…

- Expect to see more of Michelle Trachtenberg as mischievous Georgina Sparks next season, "in more ways than one", Savage teases. Some might prefer the "way out"…

- Savage says that they have an idea of how the series finale of "Gossip Girl" will look like, but that they tend to look at things season-by-season. But "we know what the island is… Manhattan." Take that, Lost!

Jennifer Grey Moves To HOUSE, Rachel Bilson Back To HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER

Two casting bits from EW's Michael Ausiello:

- Jennifer Grey will appear in an upcoming episode of "House", to air in mid-October. She will play Abbey, mother of an infant daughter with signs of a life-theatening illness. When House and his team discuss how to help the little girl, Abbey is faced with a decision that not only could change her life, but that of her daughter as well.

- Rachel Bilson is set to return to "How I Met Your Mother" in the sixth season premiere, reprising her role as Cindy, the roommate of the titular "mother".

USA Renews IN PLAIN SIGHT For Two More Seasons

Hello Folks

Per Deadline, USA has renewed its U.S. Marshal drama "In Plain Sight" for not one, but two more seasons.

Mary McCormack, Frederick Weller and Paul Ben-Victor are all set to stick around.

This brings the show's total to at least five seasons, and it will air until the summer of 2012.

TCA Press Tour: CBS

Hello Folks

The TCA Summer Press Tour is upon us, and as of every year, I will put up a resume of the most interesting bits about the executive sessions and the panels of each network. There will be individual articles about major development, but by now we all know that most of press tour is actually quite the snoozefest. And, as some of you know, these things always bring out my more sarcastic side, so bare with me.

Let's start with CBS. The info below is gathered from various sources.

- CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler said that the dreadful GLAAD ratings CBS got has prompted the network to add three gay characters to each "Sh*t My Dad Says", "Rules Of Engagement" and "The Good Wife" in the coming season. However, Kalinda's sexuality on "The Good Wife" will be kept ambiguous for the moment. Nothing ambiguous about CBS' miserable GLAAD track rate, though…

- One other gay character that is added to CBS is - Sara Gilbert. The actress and soon-to-be host of the new daytime talk show "The Talk" (How long did it take to come up with that stellar title?), had her coming-out during the panel.

- To a question about the new "Hawaii Five-O" being "dark and violent", Tassler countered, "It's a crime drama". Doh!
Speaking of the show, the producers stressed to not call it a remake, please use the word "reboot". Now why does this sound like the thing already crashed before it even got to the air?
Anyway, Alex O'Loughlin hopes that the third time is the charm for him at CBS, after "Moonlight" and "Three Rivers" tanked.

- William Shatner has hired a college student to do his tweets. Now, can we be really sure it's actually him on "Sh*t My Dad Says", or might that be a substitute as well?

- Melissa Rauch, who plays Wolowitz' (Simon Helberg) love interest Bernadette on "The Big Bang Theory", will return in some capacity next season.

- Nina Tassler doesn't expect "The Big Bang Theory" to pull the same ratings on Thursday night as it did on Monday - at least not initially. Now, if that's not trying to explain a bad move before the results are in, I don't know what is.

- Of new comedy "Mike & Molly", about people who meet at an Overeaters Anonymous, creator Chuck Lorre says that it's not a show about weight. "If [fat jokes are] something we're talking about by episode six we have a problem, that's not something you can hang a series on by any stretch of the imagination." OK, we're holding you to that, buddy...

OK, that's a wrap for CBS. Let's see what The CW will bring next.

Currie Graham, French Stewart To PRIVATE PRACTICE, William Baldwin To PARENTHOOD, More Casting News

Hello Folks

Russell (Graham) is a patient of Sam (Taye Diggs) and Charlotte (KaDee Strickland) who needs a new kidney. Enter Kevin (Stewart), Russell's estranged sibling who is offering one of his. But he might not be a fitting donor because of his mental state.

And now for some other casting news, courtesy of EW's Michael Ausiello:

- Gabriel Macht ("The Spirit") has joined the cast of USA's upcoming series "A Legal Mind". He will play Harvey, a charming, brilliant and successful, and charming attorney at a Manhattan law firm. He takes a risk and hires Mike (Patrick J. Adams), an unmotivated
but brilliant college student, even though he doesn’t have a law degree.

- After guest starring in two episodes in the first season, Eric Christian Olsen has been upped to a series regular on "NCIS: Los Angeles". He plays Det. Marty Deeks, the liaison between NCIS and the LAPD on the show.

Alfred Molina Joins LOLA

EW's Michael Ausiello reports today that British veteran actor Alfred Molina has joined the cast of the upcoming "Law & Order: Los Angeles" on NBC.

He will play Deputy D. A. Morales on the show.

From a statement by "Law & Order" creator Dick Wolf: “I am thrilled that Fred is LOLA‘s Deputy DA. He joins a remarkable list of some of America’s greatest character actors like Sam Waterston, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jeff Goldblum, Steven Hill, Dianne Wiest, and Michael Moriarty as stars of Law & Order-branded series.”

Linda Hamilton To Play CHUCK's Mom

Per EW's Michael Ausiello, Linda Hamilton (the original Sarah Connor on the first two "Terminator" films) has landed the plum part of Mama Bartowski.

Hamilton joins "Chuck" in the role of Mary Bartowski, an MIA spy who reunites with her son in the fourth season premiere that airs on September 20. Her appearance is set to make quite the waves.

Says executive producer Josh Schwatz: “We’re always looking for guest stars who will be great in the part, but who also speak to our audience and feel like it comes out of the universe of our show. If Chuck and Morgan were watching Chuck, they would be excited about Linda coming on board.” Adds fellow EP Chris Fedak: “Chuck was certainly a Terminator fan, and Morgan was a Beauty and the Beast fan.”

Another Big Round Of Casting Updates

Hello Folks

Well, we're in the middle of Comic-Con, and the casting news are dropping in all over the place. And this is just a taste of what we we'll get when the TCA Press Tour will take flight next week.

- Indira Varma ("Rome", "Torchwood", "Bones") is coming aboard "Human Target" as a new series regular, playing new team leader Ilsa. She's described in the casting breakdown as sophisticated, driven and principled. She is a widow with a vast fortune that she uses to help better the world. Ilsa finds Chance’s [Mark Valley] lethal methods and his past deeds unacceptable, but she will learn to appreciate (slowly) the altruistic benefits that he has to offer. Ilsa is witty, sexy, clearly in charge and doesn’t take any nonsense from anyone. Chance has met his match.”

- Sarah Carter ("Shark", "CSI: NY") has booked a regular role on TNT's upcoming sci-fi series "Falling Skies". She will play a member of a motorcycle gang helping Tom (Noah Wyle) and Anne (Moon Bloodgood) escaping from the grip of an alien force.

- Teen singer Justin Bieber will guest star on the upcoming season premiere of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation". His role is that of, per the press release, "Jason McCann, a troubled teen who is faced with a terrible decision regarding his only brother—a decision that leads him into an explosive confrontation with the CSIs. It is the beginning of an emotional story that will conclude later in the season." So yeah, he will return for more episodes.

- Katheryn Winnick is set to appear on "Bones" for about five episodes, playing Ashley, a war corresponded who, let's say, bonded with Booth (David Boreanaz) during his stay in Afghanistan. When he returns to Washington, D.C, she follows him back, and things start to get messy.

- Ben Wishaw ("Perfume: Story Of A Murderer") has booked the lead in Alan Ball's ("True Blood") new HBO pilot "All Signs Of Death". Based on Charlie Huston's novel "The Mystic Arts of Erasing All Signs of Death", the darkly comedic project centers on Webster Filmore Goodhue (Whishaw), a slacker in his twenties who ends up working as a crime scene cleaner, only to get entangled in a murder mystery.

- Joe Manganiello, who plays werewolf Alcide on the current third season of "True Blood", has been upped to a series regular for the fourth season, which will air next summer.

- Mayim Bialik, who appeared in the third season finale of "The Big Bang Theory" in May, will return to wreak more havoc on Sheldon's (Jim Parsons) heart as Amy Farrah Fowler in the upcoming fourth season of the successful CBS sitcom, which made the switch to Thursdays for this fall.

- Evan Ross (son of Diana) will be part of the new season of "90210". He'll play Charlie, a well-read chap who will quickly get wrapped up in a triangle with two current members of the West Bev crowd. One of them is Annie (Shenae Grimes).

- Jonathan Sadowski will take over the lead role from Ryan Devlin in CBS new comedy "$#*! My Dad Says", alongside William Shatner.

- Nate Corddry has been added to the new NBC legal drama "Harry's Law". He will play a redesigned version of the part Ben Chaplin originated in the pilot, playing the son of Harriet (Kathy Bates), the lawyer the show centers on.

- Melora Hardin is set to replace Gina Gershon on NBC's upcoming legal drama "Outlaw", starring Jimmy Smits as U.S. Supreme Court judge Cyrus Garza, who quits his job and opens a private law practice. Hardin will play Claire Sax, a senior partner in the new law firm and Garza's love interest.

TWILIGHT's Rachelle Lefevre Heading OFF THE MAP

The redhead beauty is set to play Eva, a free-spirited missionary doctor who has ample amounts of knowledge on global health and international medicine. Eva has already worked at the tropical clinic, but had left because of "trouble in paradise" with the clinic's founder, Ben (Martin Henderson).

BURN NOTICE Prequel Movie Announced - Starring Bruce Campbell

The Hollywood Reporter reports today that USA has just made a major announcement at their "Burn Notice" panel at Comic-Con.

CBS Resurrects CHAOS For Midseason

Hello Folks

Never say something is dead until you see a dead body.

OK, in case of a TV show, that might prove difficult, but the saying still applies in this particular case. Per Variety, CBS has picked up Brett Ratner's CIA series "Chaos" for midseason, after a deal with producing studio 20th Century Fox TV could be reached.

The show was declared dead after a pickup deal between the Eye and 20th could not have been made. Parties were disagreeing first over the amount of episodes ordered, then about a reduced license fee for more episodes. Negotiations finally came to an unfruitful end, and by June 30, the options on the actors expired.

But the CAA reps who packaged the show didn't give up, and now "Chaos" is back on track for midseason on CBS. The full cast from the pilot, including lead Freddy Rodriguez, has agreed to return.

"Chaos" centers on a CIA operative who is ordered to spy on his colleagues. James Murray, Tim Blake Nelson, Eric Close and Carmen Ejogo also star.

Caterina Scorsone Promoted To PRIVATE PRACTICE Regular, Shoshannah Stern Joins LIE TO ME

Two bits from the casting front.

- According to TV Guide's Natalie Abrams, Caterina Scorsone, who plays Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Derek's (Patrick Dempsey) sister) on ABC's "Private Practice", has been upped to a series regular beginning next season.

- Per EW's Michael Ausiello, deaf actress Shoshannah Stern ("Jericho") has joined FOX' "Lie To Me" in the recurring role of a grad student who helps Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) write his new book. His colleagues think that her hearing disability will make the job impossible, but Lightman thinks different.

CAPRICA To Return In January

Hello Folks

Syfy issued a press release today announcing that it will premier the second half of the first season of "Caprica" in January 2011. An exact start date has yet to be given.

Dubbed season 1.5, it will be launched promotionally with a trailer at the "Caprica" Comic-Con panel on June 23, and will be available exclusively on Zune Marketplace for Windows PC's, before finding its way to syfy.com.

And here's an overall description of what's to expect from the new season. I don't think any of it really qualifies as a spoiler.

In season 1.5, the once idyllic world of Caprica - as well as life across the colonies - falls prey to an explosive chain reaction of consequences set off by the characters' many questionable actions in the season's first half. Tensions rise, power shifts and the line between reality and the virtual world becomes increasingly blurred as everyone struggles to learn - and conquer - the stakes in this volatile setting. As the season races towards its stunning conclusion, events of each episode lay the framework for the inevitable (and brutal) clash between the newly-created Cylon race and their human creators.

Casting Updates Galore

OK, I know I've been a bit behind on some of the news, but before Comic-Con and the TCA Summer Press Tour starting next week, I went to a music festival over the weekend to get me some energy for the coming, much more news-heavy days.

OK, here are some casting news from the past days. If you are a spoilerphobe, read them with caution, because I won't be blacking out anything below. But it's nothing of the major kind.

From EW's Michael Ausiello:

- Rochelle Aytes ("The Forgotten") has joined the cast of ABC's upcoming cop drama "Detroit 1-8-7". She will play Alice Williams, a smart, sexy and ambitious lawyer in the prosecutor’s office of Wayne County.

- Gregory Itzin ("24", "The Mentalist") has come aboard HBO's "Big Love" in the heavily recurring role of Senator Richard Dwyer, the Republican Majority Leader of the Utah State Senate. Bill (Bill Paxton) is a new member of said Senate.

- Michael Ealy ("FlashForward") has signed on to at least 10 episodes of the upcoming second season of CBS' "The Good Wife". He will play Derrick Bond, the new head of the D. C. firm which is merging with Will and Diane's outfit. Bond is described in the casting breakdown as a “casual, soft-spoken attorney whose egalitarian beliefs seem at odds with Will and Diane’s self-serving practices. However, under his pleasant and unassuming exterior, he has a steel-trap mind and can outmaneuver his most cunning adversaries and/or associates. Deeply impressed with Alicia’s quiet competence, he becomes her newest mentor.”

- Joy Bryant and Tyree Brown, who play Dax Shepard’s onscreen girlfriend Jasmine and son Jabbar respectively on NBC's "Parenthood" are being upped to regulars for the upcoming second season.

- Olivia Munn ("The Daily Show") will be guest starring on NBC's "Chuck" as "an impossibly cool, smart, and pretty CIA agent who intimidates and schools Chuck and Morgan in the season 4 premiere on Sept. 20". It's the same episode Dolph Lundgren will appear in as a villain.

From TV Guide:

- Beverley Mitchell ("7th Heaven") will join the cast of ABC Family's "Secret Life Of The American Teenager" when the show rolls out new episodes in January. She plays the new school counselor, her character effectively replacing that of Mayim Bialik.

- Maria Bello heads to "Law & Order: SVU" for two episodes, playing a woman with a secret past that Detective Benson is investigating.

- Kristen Vangsness ("Criminal Minds") will be a series regular on the upcoming "Minds" spinoff "Suspect Beahavior", playing computer wiz Penelope Garcia. The new team will use her as the go-to girl when it comes to getting data from any form of computer, just as the original squad does.

- Oh yeah, not to forget: Lindsay Lohan joins the cast of Century Regional Facility, Lynwood, California as herself, the inmate, today. Let's see for how long that "part" will last... All kidding aside, (and I don't normally do this), I truly hope she gets through it and comes out with her act together. She is a very talented actress, and I would love to see her back on track to put that talent to good use. Here's hoping for the best!

DAMAGES Picked Up By DirecTV - For Two Seasons

Hello Folks

For a long time, it looked like we have to say goodbye to Patty Hewes and Ellen Parsons, but now we know that this goodbye is at least almost two years away.

DirecTV has announced that after long negotiations, it has finally picked up the legal drama. But not just for one seasons, for two. Each will consist of 10 episodes.

But unless "Friday Night Lights", which was aired on DirecTV and then on NBC, "Damages" will air exclusively on DirecTV. The cable network has also acquired the rights to repeats of the first three seasons.

"We're excited to partner with Sony Pictures Television as we breathe new life into this outstanding drama," said Patty Ishimoto, general manager of The 101 Network and vice president of entertainment for DIRECTV. Arielle Kebbel ("Gilmore Girls") has joined the cast in the recurring part of Paige, a new hottie in town, who might get to do more than bartending for Baze (Kristoffer Polaha).

And then there's Amy Price-Francis ("24", "The Cleaner") who will play Kelly, a new partner at the radio station where Cate and Ryan work. She will be recurring as well.

Additionally, per Fancast's Matt Webb Mitovich, Shaun Sipos ("Melrose Place") has landed another recurring part on the show, playing Eric, a new teacher at Westmonte High School, which is the school Lux (Britt Robertson) is attending.

Showtime Announces Premiere Dates - CALIFORNICATION Moves To Midseason

Showtime has announced via a press release the premiere dates for three shows. One returning, and two new ones.

First off, "Californication". The fourth season of the veteran comedy starring David Duchovny will not premiere in the fall, as it was for previous seasons. The show returns January 10, at 10 PM ET/PT for its new cycle.

SHOWTIME will premiere the fourth season of hit comedy series CALIFORNICATION, starring David Duchovny in his Golden Globe®-winning role as hedonistic novelist Hank Moody who struggles to raise his teenage daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin), with on-again, off-again girlfriend Karen (Natascha McElhone). This season, Hank will have to deal with the fall-out from his one-night stand with then-underage pseudo step-daughter Mia (Madeline Zima) going public. His epic legal troubles force him to enlist the aid of hot, high-powered defense attorney Abby (Carla Gugino) to keep him out of the big house. Rob Lowe (“Parks & Recreation”) special guest stars. Guest stars include Michael Ealy (“Flash Forward”), Zoe Kravitz (“Twelve”) Stephen Tobolowsky (“Glee”), Callie Thorne (“Rescue Me”), Addison Timlin (“Cashmere Mafia”) and rocker Tommy Lee. Duchovny executive produces alongside creator and EP Tom Kapinos.

New drama "Shameless", starring William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum, will premiere on January 9 at 10 PM ET/PT.

SHAMELESS, a new drama series from John Wells (“ER,” “The West Wing,” “Southland”) and Paul Abbott (“State of Play,” “Touching Evil”) is based on the long-running hit UK series and stars Emmy® Award winner and Oscar® nominee William H. Macy (Fargo, Pleasantville, The Cooler) and Emmy Rossum (The Phantom of the Opera, Mystic River). Macy plays a far-from-stellar working class patriarch of an unconventional Chicago brood of six motley kids (headed by eldest sibling Rossum) who keep the home afloat while he’s out drinking and carousing. SHAMELESS is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with John Wells Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Wells and Abbott are executive producers; Andrew Stearn (“The West Wing,” “Southland”) is co-executive producer.

And last but not least, "Episodes", the new comedy series starring Matt LeBlanc ("Friends"; "Joey") launches on January 9 as well, but at 10.30 PM ET/PT.

New comedy series EPISODES stars Matt LeBlanc (“Friends”) and is executive produced and created by David Crane (“Friends”, “The Class”) and Jeffrey Klarik (“The Class”, “Mad About You”). The series focuses on a British couple whose hit, erudite UK show is turned into an Americanized sitcom starring LeBlanc (as himself). Jimmy Mulville executive produces through his successful Hat Trick production company ("Whose Line Is It Anyway?," "Worst Week"). EPISODES is a co-production of SHOWTIME and the BBC.

UPDATED: Melina Kanakaredes Leaving CSI: NY

Hello Folks

Seems like A.J. Cook is not the only one leaving left behind when CBS fires up its new season.

Per EW's Michael Ausiello, Melina Kanakaredes, who plays Det. Stella Bonasera on CBS' hit crime drama "CSI: New York", won't be back when the show returns for its seventh season in the fall.

Kanakaredes chose to leave the show herself, when she opted not to renew her contract with the show.

“I made some amazing and lifelong friendships during my six seasons on CSI: NY, and I will treasure them forever," the actress said in a statement.

CBS Network and CBS Studios released the following:

"We hoped Melina would return to CSI: NY for another season, but we respect her decision to move on. Her amazing talent and invaluable contribution to the success of the series are greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten. She will forever remain a friend to the network and studio and we wish her the very best.”

According to Mike, it is not believed that Kanakaredes will return to wrap up her character's storyline.

UPDATE: Sela Ward ("Once And Again") is in talks to replace Kanakaredes on the show, according to Mike's updated article.

There are some things I should have posted this week, but it got swept under the rug by other stories, or simply because I didn't have time to post when they broke.

- ABC has scrapped its plans to air the final two episodes of "Eastwick". Both were scheduled to air last night. I got asked about why they haven't aired. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, and for not informing about this earlier.
