Emily VanCamp Leaves BROTHERS AND SISTERS - And She Says Why
Hello Folks!
Yes, it is true: Emily VanCamp will leave ABC's family drama "Brothers & Sisters" next season.
The actress has agreed to return for two or three episodes at the beginning of the new season, but that is it for her.
" I really feel like Rebecca has run her course," she tells EW's Michael Ausiello. "And the deal I was offered this year was for two more years and I just felt like since renegotiations were happening that maybe it would be the right time to move on. I’ve been doing this for a very long time and other opportunities have presented themselves that I haven’t been able to do. I’ve had such an amazing four years on the show and I felt like maybe it was time."

Newsies: Janeane Garofalo To CRIMINAL MINDS Spinoff, A&E Gets BREAKOUT KINGS, David Anders To WAREHOUSE 13; More
Hello Folks!
First off, from EW's Michael Ausiello:
- Janeane Garofalo ("24") has landed a regular part on "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior", the spinoff to the original "Minds", starring Forest Whitaker. She will play a member of the core team.
- A&E has picked up "Breakout Kings", the "highly regarded" FOX pilot about a group of U.S. Marshals tracking down criminals, which didn't make the cut for FOX' fall schedule. The order is for 13 episodes.
The show stars Laz Alonso, Domenick Lombardozzi, Malcolm Goodwin, Jimmi Simpson and Brooke Nevin. The part played by Nicole Steinwedell ("The Unit") in the pilot will be recast, according to Deadline.com.
And from the Hollywood Reporter:
- "CSI" showrunner Carol Mendelsohn and "CSI: Miami" head Ann Donahue have both renewed their respective deals with CBS for another four years.
"Carol and Ann are two of the best showrunners of this decade," Nina Tassler, president, CBS Entertainment said in a statement. "The ongoing success of 'CSI' and 'CSI Miami' is testimony to their incredible creative talents and leadership skills. It gives the network great confidence having them at the helm of these two important series."
Mendelsohn's contract includes her continuing to run "CSI" as well as new legal drama "The Defenders". The renewal for four years is deemed unusual, but CBS has always considered the "CSI" franchise the staple of its yearly program lineup.
- David Anders, apart from returning to "The Vampire Diaires" in the fall, will make a visit to Syfy's "Warehouse 13" for one episode airing in September, the cable network has announced in a press release. His part is that of Jonah Raitt, a serial killer who once escaped the Warehouse with a dangerous object.
"Warehouse 13" returns for its second season on July 6.

Eddie Cibrian Exits CSI: MIAMI
Hello Folks!
After the TV world was shocked with the news of A.J. Cook getting cut from CBS's crime drama "Criminal Minds" (and Paget Brewster getting less episodes next season), another CBS prodcedural will lose a castmember when it returns in the fall.
EW's Michael Ausiello reports that Eddie Cibrian will not be part of "CSI: Miami" anymore next season. His contract option was not picked up.
The reason in this case however might not come as that big a surprise. Adam Rodriguez, who left the show to return only sporadically during the past year, will return full-time to the cast next season. And since Cibrian was cast to fill the void left by Rodriguez, it now seems he's no longer needed Sources confirm this by saying the show would return the focus more on its core team.

A.J. Cook, who plays Jennifer "JJ" Jareau on the show, won't return to the show in the fall, as her contract option for next season was not picked up.
Additionally, the other female part of the group, Paget Brewster, who plays FBI agent Emily Prentiss, will remain a series regular, but she won't be appearing in all of the new episodes.
Financial reasons were given for the decision to reduce the regular cast. However, one wonders why it was only the ladies who were the victims of this cost-cutting...

Newsies: THE FORGOTTEN, BETTER OFF TED To Burn Off, Stephen Collins Regular On FAMILY, Ed Asner A REGULAR JOE, Maura Tierney To THE WHOLE TRUTH
Hello Folks!
Some news bits to chew over the weekend.
- The Futon Critic reports that ABC has chosen Saturday, July 3 at 9/8c PM to burn off the remaining two episodes of its canceled drama "The Forgotten". Both episodes are set to air back-to-back. Plotwise, it might be good to know that they are set before the events of the series finale. So don't be surprised if Alex all of a sudden is looking for his daughter again…
Additionally, ABC is also set to air the two remaining segments of "Better Off Ted" on Thursday, June 17 at 8/7c PM. However, this depends on the NBA Finals. If a game 7 is needed, this would have priority.
- Stephen Collins ("7th Heaven") has been upped to a series regular on ABC's new drama "No Ordinary Family", the Hollywood Reporter reports. In the story of a family of superheroes, starring Michael Chiklis and Julie Benz, Collins plays Benz' boss.
- Also per the Hollywood Reporter, Ed Asner has joined the cast of CMT's comedy pilot "Regular Joe", with Liza Snyder also coming aboard. The project centers on outspoken, gruff Joe who has recently separated from his longtime wife and now re-enters the dating world.
Snyder plays said wife, a funny and smart woman.
- EW's Michael Ausiello reports that Maura Tierney has now officially joined ABC's "The Whole Truth". She replaces Joely Richardson in the legal drama, who quit the project to spend more time with her family.
The show focuses on legal cases from both the perspective of the prosecution and the defense. Tierney plays Kathryn Peale, the deputy bureau chief of the Manhattan DA's office. Her frequent opponent is Jimmy Brogan (Rob Morrow), a rising criminal defense attorney, with whom she shares a mutual personal respect.

FOX Renews THE CLEVELAND SHOW; Shawn Hatosy Patrols To DEXTER
Hello Folks!
FOX has announced it has picked up its animated comedy "The Cleveland Show" for a third season. And this before the second season has even begun. But that is not uncommon for animated fare, since it takes much longer to produce, and thus needs an earlier verdict whether to continue or not.
Additionally, per EW's Michael Ausiello, Shawn Hatosy ("Southland") will guest star on a multi-episode arc of Showtime's "Dexter" in the upcoming season. According to a source, Hatosy will play baddie, and with this is going against his role of Det. Sammy Bryant on "Southland", which he will head back to after this stint.

Castings: Sarah Drew Is A Regular On GREY'S ANATOMY, Vinnie Jones Joins THE CAPE
Hello Folks!
Two stories from the castings front.
- EW's Michael Ausiello reports today that after Jesse Williams yesterday, Sarah Drew, who plays Dr. April Kepner this morning finalized her deal to become a series regular on "Grey's Anatomy" when the show returns for its seventh season in the fall.
- And according to the Hollywood Reporter, British actor Vinnie Jones ("Snatch", "Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels") has joined the cast of NBC's upcoming midseason drama "The Cape" as another regular. David Lyons stars in the show as a framed cop who becomes a masked hero to clear his name and fight crime. Summer Glau and Keith David also star.
Jones is set to play a typical comic villain, a powerful criminal with a creepy skin condition that gives him the appearance of scales of green and gold.

Castings: Jesse Williams A Regular On GREY'S ANATOMY, John Stamos To GLEE, Idris Elba To THE BIG C, Much More
Hello Folks!
I've been quite busy lately, but now I have time to do a little bit more extensive update.
The following comes from EW's Michael Ausiello (And no, this blog is NOT just a copy of his… He just is very often the first to report such news, and I try to look for the first source to give credit).
- Jesse Williams, who plays Dr. Jackson Avery on ABC's "Grey's Anatomy", will be upped to a full-fledged series regular when the show returns in the fall. A deal to do the same with Sarah Drew (Dr. April Kepner) is currently being worked out.
- John Stamos ("Full House") is in talks to join "Glee" in recurring capacity next season. He will play Emma's dentist, who will also be a love interest for her, giving Will some competition. The role also requires Stamos to sing.
- Idris Elba ("The Office", "The Wire") is joining the cast of Showtime's upcoming series "The Big C". The show stars Laura Linney as a wife and mother who gets diagnosed with terminal cancer. Elba plays a love interest for her, even though she is quite married. Elba will appear in at least four episodes. "The Big C" launches August 16.
- Jon Seda ("Homicide", "The Pacific") is heading to USA's "Burn Notice". In a guest spot later in the season, he plays Cole, an ex-marine who now works as a killer for hire.
- D. W. Moffett ("Friday Night Lights", "Life Is Wild") has joined the cast of USA's upcoming spy series "Covert Affairs", starring Piper Perabo, as Annie, a rookie CIA agent suddenly being placed in the field. Moffett plays a powerful senator and chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, who gets investigated by Annie. Lauren Holly ("NCIS") plays his wife.
- Carlo Mendez has landed a multi-episode arc on "Parks & Recreations" next season, playing a love interest for… well, it doesn't say, except that it's a spoiler…
- And, per various sources, Julia Stiles is now confirmed to join the upcoming fifth season of "Dexter" on Showtime. In 10 episodes, she will play "a mysterious young woman who forms a unique relationship with Dexter (Michael C. Hall) in the wake of the death of his wife."

Liz Vassey Leaving CSI
Hello Folks!
Per EW's Michael Ausiello, the team of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" in Las Vegas will be one lab rat short when it returns in the fall.
Vassey, who played Wendy Simms on the veteran crime drama since November 2005, will leave the show after her contract option was not picked up.
An insider is quoted saying that the show goes "in a different creative direction in its 11th season".
Whether this means other cast members will be left behind remains to be seen.
