The Disney Channel has just issued a press release that might make all those "High School Musical" fans giddy with excitement - especially if they like Sharpay Evans…
"Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" is the name of the Disney Channel original movie that lets Ashley Tisdale reprise her role of "High School Musical" troublemaker Sharpay Evans. And this time, she really is the center of attention. Tisdale is also serving as executive producer.
The movie takes Sharpay on her next step in her musical career after graduating from high school - Broadway.
But read for yourself.
Aspiring thespian Sharpay Evans, who was once a big, fabulous fish in a small pond (a man-made pond at a resort country club that her father owns), is finally about to meet her destiny on Broadway, and luckily, theater lighting highlights her hair and skin tone beautifully. Her big break comes after a talent scout spots her performing with her dog Boi at a charity gala, and now there’s not a marquee big enough or lights bright enough to contain the glorious fame she plans on having. Sharpay and Boi head to New York, but theatre is a dog eat dog world, and nothing turns out as Sharpay expects, especially when she meets her match in a rather daunting Broadway starlet (who arrived in Midtown Manhattan as a recent winner of "So You Think You’re America’s Most Talented Performing Idol").
The Great White Way is all Sharpay's ever dreamed of, especially since she already has everything else. Life in the big city is a shock, but there's an even bigger bombshell when Sharpay finally realizes the Broadway role is really for Boi, not her. Putting her disappointment aside, she sets out to make Boi the most fabulous canine star to hit the stage, with the hope that his fame will become her fame (after all, she is his entourage and she holds the leash). Before long, Sharpay makes a new friend in a student filmmaker, Callem, who finds her to be a fascinating subject. Meanwhile, Boi finds puppy love on a Big Apple adventure of his own.
Gary Marsh, Entertainment president of Disney Channel Worldwide said:
"In 'Sharpay,' Ashley Tisdale brought to life one of the most memorable comedic characters we’ve seen in years. This movie captures the absolutely perfect next chapter in Sharpay’s life, as she tries to cultivate the humanity buried, deep, deep within her - a challenging and hilarious endeavor."
"Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" will premier on the Disney Channel sometime in 2011.

Pilot News: Ryan Hansen, Jessica Lucas, Tyler Labine, Orlando Jones, Mircea Monroe, More Are Cast
OK, things are finally slowing down at the pilot front, so don't expect daily updates anymore. I will update once there are enough castings to warrant a post, or something incredible happens, which might trigger an article all by itself.
Here's the latest:
- Ryan Hansen ("Veronica Mars") has grabbed the lead, and Jessica Lucas ("Melrose Place", "CSI") has come aboard NBC's comedy pilot "Friends With Benefits", replacing Patrick J. Adams. It's about five friends on the search for Mr. or Ms. Right. Meanwhile, they all settle for "friends with benefits". Hansen plays central figure Ben, an Everyman who enjoys a relationship with Sara (Danneel Harris), a doctor. Both are waiting for "the one". Lucas plays another one of the five friends. Her casting is technically in second position to her current stint on "Melrose Place", but a return in the fall is unlikely.
- Orlando Jones ("Men In Trees", "Rules of Engagement") has joined the cast of "Tax Man", FOX' comedy pilot set at an IRS office in Fresno. It centers on a proud auditor (David Krumholtz) and his hounding boss (Martin Short).
- Tyler Labine ("Reaper", "Invasion") has been added to CBS' "True Love". The comedy pilot revolves around Henry (Jason Biggs), a kind and unassuming lawyer falling for a stranger (Minka Kelly), while still being in a long-term relationship. Labine, who got the role offered two months ago, will play Henry's best friend, who is also a lawywer, and doesn't believe in love. Dan Fogler was originally set to play that part.
- Ritchie Coster is cast in HBO's pilot "Luck". The drama from Michael Mann and David Milch, revolves around the worlds of horse racing and gambling through a group of characters surrounding a race track. It centers on an intelligent, intuitive tough man (Dustin Hoffman) who always has been involved with gambling.
- Nick D'Agosto ("Heroes") has grabbed a role in "This Little Piggy", NBC's comedy pilot about an underemployed woman (Brooke Bloom) and her materialistic brother (D'Agosto) who move in with their older sibling (Ben Koldyke).
- Ashley Madekwe ("Secret Diary of a Call Girl") has joined "The Pink House". the NBC comedy pilot is about two guys renting a house at the beach after moving to L.A. Madekwe plays their neighbor, a girl from a poor family on the search for a wealthy man to marry.
And finally, a casting for an upcoming series:
- Mircea Monroe ("Drive") has landed a part on Showtime's "Episodes", alongside Matt LeBlanc. It's about a successful British husband-and-wife comedy team (Claire Forlani, Stephen Mangan) tapped to produce a U.S. version of their hit series. They are forced to replace the erudite British lead in the original with LeBlanc, who is playing a version of himself, and begin to sink deeper into the quicksand that is the Hollywood TV business. Monroe plays an actress who is 24, but, thanks to the scalpel and other help, looks like 24.

Hello Folks!
It's official: FOX' real-time drama "24" will forever stop its clock after this season - at least on TV.
Mary Lynn Rayskub, who plays computer tech Chloe O'Brien on the show, has tweeted the fate of the show with the following:
"Just found out we got the word officially. This is 24's last season."
And former executive producer Jon Cassar doubled:
"News from the 24 set,the crew has been told that 24 has come to an end. There will b no season 9. Its been a great run, thanx all 4 watching."
Per an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, "24" exec producer and showrunner Howard Gordon explains that a script is currently being written for a feature film, and that we might see it in theatres as early as next year.
"There are other possible iterations of Jack Bauer and his world -- whether a movie or some other sort of scenario. We're developing the movie, Billy Ray (”State of Play,” “Shattered Glass”) is writing it. It depends on how well it comes out and Fox's appetite. Most importantly it's about ending the show right and doing it with the same level of intensity and commitment that we started with."

Showtime Renews UNITED STATES OF TARA, NURSE JACKIE; MTV Cancels THE HILLS
One down, two to go on...
Per the Hollywood Reporter, MTV has officially canceled "The Hills" after six seasons. There are still 12 episodes left to air, starting April 27. Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt will be the central figures in those segments.
Better news for the fans of two Showtime dramas. The cable network has renewed its sophomore series "United States of Tara" and "Nurse Jackie" for a third season each. This after very strong season debuts this week.
Says Showtime entertainment president Robert Greenblatt:
"Showtime is enormously proud of these two series starring two of the best actresses working today. Both are iconic shows for our brand and our thanks to the dedicated producers, cast, and crews who work so hard to make them so great. Edie Falco's portrayal of the fierce 'Jackie' is another extraordinary example of her range and brilliance, and recent Emmy and Golden Globe wins for Toni Collette in her tour de force role as a woman with multiple personalities put her in a class by herself. Strong women will continue to rule on this network for a long time to come."

PRIVATE PRACTICE Loses Showrunners
Per the Hollywood Reporter, Robert Rovner and Jon Cowan, who have been running ABC's "Private Practice" since the beginning of season two, will step down from their posts by the end of the current third season.
The rest of the season has already been outlined by Rovner and Cowan, so the actual impact of this move is not scheduled to set in before the fourth season. This gives ABC and creator Shonda Rhimes time to find a replacement.
Rhimes, who keeps supervising all creative and production aspects, will oversee day-to-day business for the remainder of season three.
ABC has not yet handed out early renewals for either "Grey's Anatomy" or "Private Practice", but it's considered a safe bet that both shows will return in the fall.

Pilot News: Cheryl Hines, Carrie Fisher, Lindsay Sloane, Rhona Mitra, John Larroquette, Jennifer Beals, Others Have Roles
Hello Folks!
Here's the latest from the pilot casting department. And yeah, it is pretty female-centric this time.
- Cheryl Hines ("Brothers & Sisters", "Curb Your Enthusiasm") and Carrie Fisher ("Star Wars", "Family Guy") have both joined Debra Messing in ABC's comedy pilot "Wright vs. Wrong". It centers on Evelyn Wright (Messing) a political persona with a conservative, right-wing agenda. But in her private life, she's constantly battling her flaws and insecurities. Hines plays Evelyn's liberal opponent who doesn't like her, and Fisher plays Evelyn's gruff manager.
- Jennifer Beals ("Flashdance", "Lie To Me") has grabbed the female lead alongside Jason Clarke in "Ride-Along". The FOX drama pilot revolves around a rogue cowboy cop (Clarke) and his boss, the first female police chief in Chicago (Beals), who both want to clean up the town's streets.
- John Larroquette ("Boston Legal") is cast in "Pleading Guilty", FOX' drama pilot starring Jason Isaacs as a cop-turned-attorney at a firm where embezzlement, bookmaking and offshore banking are a daily subject. Larroquette plays the man who recruited him, a patrician managing partner at the firm.
- Keith David has been added to NBC's "The Cape". The drama pilot centers on Vince (David Lyons), a framed cop who becomes a masked hero to clear his name. Keith plays a criminal showman mentoring the new masked hero.
- Lindsay Sloane ("Help Me Help You", "Sabrina The Teenage Witch") has joined the cast of the untitled Carter Bays/Craig Thomas comedy pilot over at CBS. It's about an unmarried couple, Tommy (Kyle Bornheimer) and Gina (Sloane), who love each other, but Tommy has commitment issues. Gina is a waitress dreaming of opening her own business.
- Melissa McCarthy ("Samantha Who?", "Gilmore Girls") has come aboard "Mike And Molly", the new romantic comedy pilot from Chuck Lorre ("The Big Bang Theory") for CBS. It's about Mike (Billy Gardell), an overweight, charming police officer, and Molly (McCarthy) a voluptuous and pretty woman. They met at an Overeaters Anonymous, where the "romantic comedy" part kicks in.
- Marisol Nichols ("24", "In Justice") and Rhona Mitra ("Nip/Tuck", "Boston Legal") are cast as leads on ABC's "The Gates". Justin Miles, Victoria Pratt and Skyler Samuels have also been cast. The project is a supernatural crime drama centering on a big city cop (Frank Grillo) who becomes chief of police of a seemingly sleepy community called the Gates. But behind the closed doors, things are not what they seem. Nichols plays a woman moving to the community looking for a fresh start. Mitra is a housewife and a vampire. Pratt and Samuels play residents, with Miles playing a teen with a sinister secret.

CBS Cuts Down TWO AND A HALF MEN, Flips CSI And THE MENTALIST On April 1
Per the Hollywood Reporter, CBS is doing a timeslot switch on Thursday, April 1.
The network will air "The Mentalist" in the competitive 9 PM slot against ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" and NBC's "The Office", and put "CSI" at 10 PM against "Private Practice" and "Marriage Ref".
The reason? While "The Mentalist" is getting consistently stronger ratings, beating "CSI" constantly in the demos, "CSI" has been dropping significantly over the last couple of years.
In other CBS news, several sources report that the current season of "Two And A Half Men" is only doing 22 episodes this year, instead of the initially ordered 24. Charlie Sheen's absence due to his arrest is to blame for the move.

No STAR SEARCH For Paula Abdul
A few days, ago, reports were saying that Paula Abdul might be headed to ABC's music competition format "Star Search".
Guess that didn't go as planned.
Several sources now report that Abdul won't be part of "Star Search", since the negotiations weren't fruitful after all.

24 Might Move To NBC
Per EW's Michael Ausiello, FOX' real-time drama "24" might get a new home if it will go on for another year.
An insider close to the talks reveals that FOX has approached NBC about possibly taking over the show, if FOX decides not to go on with a ninth season.
Since "24" is very expensive to produce, it still is rather unlikely that NBC will eventually bite. If it does, that would certainly mean that a Jack Bauer feature film would be even further away, since producing a movie while the show is still on the air is simply not possible.
What do you think? Would you like to see another very long day for Jack? Or do you think it's time to close shop and move to the Big Screen?

Katherine Heigl On The Verge Of Leaving GREY'S ANATOMY
EW's Michael Ausiello reports today that all signs point to the fact that Katherine Heigl will not be returning to "Grey's Anatomy" anymore.
The actress, who has taken two leaves of absence in the show's current season, was expected to return to the "Grey's" set on March 1. But that day passed, and Heigl stayed absent.
Sources say that after a talk between Heigl, ABC and "Grey's " ceator Shonda Rhimes, it was decided that it would be best to part ways right away, and not drag the exit out until the end of the season. ABC Studios and Heigl's camp now only have to finalize an exit agreement.
So it sure looks like we've already seen the last of Izzie Stevens.
For a few more details, as well as a timeline of recent, uhm, events surrounding Heigl and her days on "Grey's", hit the link above.

- Mary Elizabeth Ellis ("It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia") and Hayes MacArthur ("Worst Week") have grabbed parts in NBC's comedy pilot "Perfect Couples". In the romantic comedy about three couples, Ellis and MacArthur will both play better halves.
- Traylor Howard ("Monk") has been cast as the lead alongside Dana Gould on his untitled ABC comedy pilot. It stars Gould as a high school guidance counselor and father of two who is trapped between the old-school parenting beliefs of his own dad (Brian Dennehy) and the more liberal views of his wife (Howard).
- Will Sasso ("MADTv", "Family Guy") and Stephanie Lemelin ("Cavemen") have both joined the cast of "Shit My Dad Says", the comedy pilot based on the vastly popular Twitter account of the same name. It tells the story of Harry (Ryan Devlin) who is forced to live with his outspoken, opinionated dad (William Shatner). Sasso plays Harry's cheesy stepbrother, and Lemelin is Harry's best friend and hip roommate.
- Debra Jo Rupp ("As the World Turns") has been added to ABC's untitled Shana Goldberg-Meehan comedy pilot. It centers on two sisters (Joanna Garcia and Jennifer Finnigan) at different stages in their romantic relationships. Rupp plays her intimidating mother.
- Maria Thayer ("Strangers With Candy), Lauren Weedman ("Hung") and Mahaley Hessam have all joined "Our Show", Larry Charles' NBC comedy pilot about a disparate group of people led by the brothers Mike (Nate Corddry) and Jack (Jonathan Sadowski). They start making new episodes of their favorite sci-fi show after it ends on TV. Thayer plays Jack's on-again-off-again girlfriend and costume designer of the show. Weedman is a waitress/wedding singer who is overy dramatic and self-destructive, while Hessam plays a teenager who knows it all about pop culture and comes from a deeply religious Muslim family.
- David Gallagher ("7th Heaven") has landed a part on The CW's drama pilot "Betwixt", about three changelings responsible for saving the world from evil. Gallagher plays a mysterious man with a skull bracelet.
- James Frain ("24") has grabbed a lead on "The Cape", NBC's drama pilot about a former cop (David Lyons) who gets framed for a crime and becomes a masked hero to clear his name. Frain plays the villain, a futurist moonlighting as a masked killer.
- Stephen Rea ("Father & Son") has been added to "Chaoes", CBS's drama pilot about a team of rogue CIA operatives battling beaurocracy and politics. Rea plays a manipulative middle manager in the Clandestine Administration and Oversight Services.
- Sonja Sohn ("Brothers & Sisters", "The Wire") has joined the cast of ABC's drama pilot "Body of Evidence". It' about a medical examiner (Dana Delany) with a cunning perspective to solve crimes, which puts her at odds with nearly everyone. Sohn plays the eager partner of detective Bud Morris (John Carroll Lynch).
- Raoul Trujillo ("True Blood") is cast in "Edgar Floats", the ABC drama pilot about a police psychologist-turned-bounty hunter (Tom Cavanagh). Trujillo plays a bail bondsman.
- And to close things up, quite the switcheroo: "Keep Hope Alive", the Greg Garcia comedy pilot for FOX is making some major changes. Shot back in December, it revolves around Jimmy (Lucas Neff), a single parent raising an infant with his quirky family's help after its mother ends up on death row.
Now, the pilot will get tweaked and two roles will be recast. Shannon Marie Woodward ("The Riches"9 has landed one of them, a sharp waitress and, according to Jimmy, the perfect woman to help him raise his daughter. Olesya Rulin played the role in the original pilot. The other role, that of Mike's unkempt cousin, will go back to being male after being transformed from male to female back in December. Casting for that part is pending.

Pilot News: Brittany Snow, Rob Morrow, Nick Nolte, Kevin Dunn, Jean Smart, Tom Cavanagh, More Get Cast
And on to the pilot news:
- Rob Morrow ("Numb3rs") has been tapped to star opposite Joely Richardson in "The Whole Truth". The ABC legal drama pilot showcases the prosecution and defense sides equally, with focus being on Kathryn Pearle (Richardson), a successful prosecutor in New York. Morrow plays an equally successful, larger-than-life defense attorney who frequently battles Kathryn in court. But they share mutual respect for each other and the law, which results in them carpooling to sit on various panels. For Morrow, the casting is in second position to "Numb3rs", but chances are slim that the veteran CBS crime drama returns in the fall.
- Brittany Snow ("Nip/Tuck") has come aboard the NBC drama pilot "Kindreds" from David E. Kelley. It's about a former patent lawyer (Kathy Bates) and her misfit associates at a storefront law firm. Snow plays her assistant and key member of the firm.
- Sarah Wynter ("24", "Windfall", "Damages") has been cast in the ABC dramedy pilot "Cutthroat". It stars Roselyn Sanchez as Nina Cabrera, a Beverly Hills widow and soccer mom who runs an international drug cartel on the side. Wynter plays a Hollywood mother who has her life in shambles.
- Kevin Dunn ("Samantha Who?"), Kerry Condon ("Rome") and Britsh actor Tom Payne have all come aboard "Luck", the new project from David Milch and Michael Mann for HBO, with Nick Nolte being in talks to join as well. The drama pilot centers on a group of characters surrounded by competitive horse racing and the gambling around it. Dustin Hoffman has been cast as one of the leads, a tough guy who has always been involved in gambling. Dunn plays a misanthrope and ringmaster of a misfits syndicate. Nolte would play the trainer of a top race horse. Condon is the horse's exercise rider for an apprentice jockey (Payne). Dennis Farina and John Ortiz have been previously cast. Michael Mann directs the pilot.
- Jean Smart ("24") has been added to CBS' remake of "Hawaii Five-O". On the update of the drama about an elite branch of the Hawaii State Police led by Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin), Smart plays Hawaii Governor Pat Jameson. The role was male in the original, but with women taking more active roles in politics, producers decided to acknowledge that.
- Tom Cavanagh ("Ed") has joined the cast of "Edgar Floats" as the lead. The ABC drama pilot centers on a police psychologist who becomes a bounty hunter.

Pilot News: Kathy Bates, Breckin Meyer, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Patrick Fugit, Jessy Schram, Aly Michalka, Michael Cassidy, Scott Foley, More Cast
Hello Folks!
After a long Oscar night and three hours of sleep on my part, here are the latest pilot castings. So blame any typos on that. :) And speaking of the Oscars, why not start the (very long) list with an Oscar winner?
- Kathy Bates ("Misery", "Titanic") has landed the lead in NBC's legal drama pilot "Kindred" from David E. Kelley. It centers on a former patent lawyer (Bates) and her misfit associates. Originally planned as male, the role is now reworked into a female character for Bates.
- Breckin Meyer ("King of the Hill", "Robot Chicken"and Mark-Paul Gosselaar ("Raising The Bar", "Commander In Chief") have come aboard to play the leads in TBS' hour-long comedy pilot "Franklin & Bash". The casting lifts the contingency off the project centered on Jared Franklin (Meyer) and Steven Bash (Gosselaar), two street lawyers who after taking down a white-shoe firm, are hired by the firm's patriarch.
- Tim Meadows ("The Colbert Report", The Bill Engvall Show") and Kelly Blatz ("Aaron Stone") have joined large the ensemble cast of "Glory Daze", another TBS hour-long pilot. Julianna Guill, Callard Harris, Matt Bush, Hartley Sawyer and Drew Seeley are also cast in the project centered at a Wisconsin college in 1985. The story centers on Joel (Blatz) an inexperienced freshman joining the wildest fraternity on campus. Harris, Bush, Sawyer and Seeley play frat brothers, Meadows plays their liberal professor. Guill is the hot girl everyone, including Joel, wants to date.
- Kyle Bornheimer ("Worst Week") has nabbed the lead in CBS' untitled Craig Thomas/Carter Bays pilot. The project from the creators of "How I Met Your Mother" revolves around a married couple and their friends in Pittsburgh. Bornheimer plays one half of the couple, Tommy, who is highly entertaining, lovable and slightly messy. The role is in second position to Bornheimer's part in ABC's upcoming comedy "Romantically Challenged".
- Patrick Fugit ("Almost Famous") and Melissa Rauch ("The Big Bang Theory", "Kath & Kim") are cast in "Wright vs. Wrong), the ABC comedy pilot starring Debra Messing as Evelyn Wright, a conservative pundit trying to maintain a public persona despite all her vulnerabilities. Fugit plays her contributing writer, Rauch is cast as her wide-eyed personal assistant.
- Scott Foley ("The Unit", "Felicity") has joined the ABC drama "True Blue", about a bunch of top San Francisco detectives who are best friends, coming back together to solve the murder of one of their own. Foley plays an assistant DA, the legal member of the group.
- Aly Michalka ("Phil of the Future") has come aboard as the lead in "Hellcats", the drama pilot for The CW about competitive cheerleading. Michalka plays a girl from the wrong side of the tracks who joins the "Hellcats" cheerleading team after losing her scholarship because of budget cuts and her mother's chronic irresponsibility. Gail O'Grady has been tapped to play the mother.
- James Patrick Stuart ("90210", "The Penguines of Madagascar") and Cheyenne Jackson ("30 Rock") have both been added to ABC's comedy pilot "It Takes a Village". It's about exes Karen (Leah Remini) and Howard trying to raise a 15-year old boy with the help of their significant others. Stuart plays Karen's new husband. Openly gay actor Jackson plays Howard's new and first boyfriend.
- Jessy Schram ("Life") has grabbed a lead in The CW's drama pilot "Betwixt". It centers on three teenagers coming to terms with their changing nature. Schram plays the one who can turn into a cat-like creature.
- Tim Pepper has been cast in "Most Likely to Succeed", the FOX comedy pilot about former high school superstars facing the reality of adulthood. Pepper plays Griff, who was once voted most likely to succeed, but is now unemployed.
- Dorian Missick ("Six Degrees") has been added to "The Cape", the NBC drama pilot centering on Vince Faraday (David Lyons) a former cop framed as a criminal who turns into a masked hero. Missick plays a former police detective and Vince's friend who ends up betraying him.
- Michael Cassidy ("Privileged", "Hidden Palms") is coming aboard "The Pink House" as one of the two leads. It centers on two Midwestern guys renting a house on the beach in L.A.
- Nicholas Bishop ("Past Life") has joined the cast of "Body Of Evidence". The ABC drama pilot is a procedural about a medical examiner (Dana Delany) who is also a neurosurgeon, and has a unique perspective and wisdom to solve crimes But that doesn't sit well with, well, almost everyone. Bishop plays an employee of the ME's office who works closely with her and is one of the few who isn't irritated by her.
- Ryan Hawley and Kathleen Chalfant ("Rescue Me", "The Guardian") have joined The CW's untitled Wyoming project from Amy Sherman-Palladino ("Gilmore Girls"). FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Will Go On Without… - SPOILER Alert!
And, on bit of a less happy note…
EW's Michael Ausiello reports that when "Friday Night Lights" returns for its fifth and final season in the fall on DirecTV (not that NBC has even started airing season four), it won't be with one of its key characters since season one.
Jesse Plemons, who plays Landry on the football drama, will not return next season. At least not in full capacity.
Says executive producer Jason Katims: "With Jesse — as with previous cast members who have moved on — Pete Berg, myself and the producers of the show let the storytelling guide us, and we feel we didn’t have substantial enough storylines to justify keeping such an immensely talented actor from pursuing what we know will continue to be a very successful career.
Jesse has created one of Friday Night Lights finest and most beloved characters, and I can tell you this was not an easy decision.”
However, Katims is quick to add that, as it was with Zach Gilford in the fourth season, there's still the possibility to see Landry again. Katims hopes to bring Plemons back for the occasional guest appearance.
"We hope he will come back for the season opener,” Katims explains, “and several other episodes later in the season, depending on his availability.”
So, while we won't see Landry as much when FNL returns, at least it looks like there will be a proper send-off down the road.

Additionally, the Hollywood Reporter has some bad news in store for thefew fans that watch ABC's struggling procedural "The Forgotten". And now ABC decided to end things early. Pretty much confirms what this means for the show, yes? Slim to none chance of renewal.
