Per the Hollywood Reporter, Robert Rovner and Jon Cowan, who have been running ABC's "Private Practice" since the beginning of season two, will step down from their posts by the end of the current third season.
The rest of the season has already been outlined by Rovner and Cowan, so the actual impact of this move is not scheduled to set in before the fourth season. This gives ABC and creator Shonda Rhimes time to find a replacement.
Rhimes, who keeps supervising all creative and production aspects, will oversee day-to-day business for the remainder of season three.
ABC has not yet handed out early renewals for either "Grey's Anatomy" or "Private Practice", but it's considered a safe bet that both shows will return in the fall.
