Per EW's Michael Ausiello, multiple sources confirm that "Friday Night Lights" will be over after the fifth season, which is set to air on DirecTV this fall.
NBC, who insists that no decision about the show's future has been made yet, has apparently informed the cast and crew that after production wraps on season 5 in June, they're free to take other offers and pursue other work.
Part of the reason for this decision might be the fact that pilot season is getting in full gear these days. The network probably informed the actors early, so they could take pilot offers without risking to be unavailable should said projects go to series.
But let's be honest: Nearly no one expected a sixth season anyway, right? Let's cherish the fact that the show will once again return in the fall, and will find a satisfying conclusion.
